(September 7, 2006) SAN ANTONIO – Since 2000, Clarke American has supported breast cancer research and awareness through the sale of its Loving Reflections® checks and check-related products. Annually during the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, these products take center stage as part of Clarke American’s cause-related check program. Through this philanthropic initiative, a portion of the proceeds from Loving Reflections® sales are donated to The Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC) and the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. To date, approximately $230,000 has been contributed to these breast cancer organizations.

Last year, Clarke American launched an updated version of its Loving Reflections® check design, which now features a pink foil ribbon on a pink swirled background. Other foiled accents include the words “hope”, “love” and “life”, which appear in the top right corner, separated by pink hearts. A coordinating checkbook cover is available for purchase separately or as part of a ValuePack®, which includes the Loving Reflections® checks and white labels for one value price.

For more than twenty years, National Mammography Day has served as an opportunity to shed light on breast cancer-related statistics and to help create awareness of the need for a cure. According to The American Cancer Society, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, and it is estimated that in 2006 about 212,920 women will be diagnosed with new cases of breast cancer in the United States. Women living in North America have the highest rate of breast cancer in the world and early detection is an extremely important factor in successful treatment of this disease. National Mammography Day is traditionally held on the third Friday of every October. This year it will be celebrated on October 20.
